What is the Peer Signposting Project?

In 2008 the Peer Signposting Project (P.S Project) was developed as a part of extending entitlement for Wales. The P.S project was designed to enable young people to become peer helpers within their centres and schools. Young people from various youth centres and schools across Bridgend were given the opportunity to become peer signposters within their establishment.

How can I become a Peer helper?

An OCN level 2 in peer helping skills was delivered to a large group of young people and upon completion, the young people are able to demonstrate listening skills, confidentiality, networking skills and many more skills, all of which are relevant for supporting their peers.

In addition, the peer helpers were awarded with a Record of Achievement for participating in various activities, and they also have further opportunities to partake in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award in order to develop their skills further. The peer helpers are able to signpost other young people to specialist agencies depending on the nature of their query, which will inform the development of information, advice and guidance services for young people through consultation and promotion of local and national activities.
