Race Equality Scheme
Race Equality Scheme 2008 to 2011
Under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, the Council is required, in all its services, to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate racial discrimination
- Promote equality of opportunity, and
- Promote good race relations
We are required to publish a Race Equality Scheme setting out how we will meet these duties. Due to delays resulting from the recent local election period, the Council has decided to publish a draft Race Equality Scheme for public consultation purposes prior to seeking formal Council approval for the Scheme.
The Scheme will be published following its submission to the first meeting of the Cabinet Equalities Committee in July 2008. It will then be sent to all interested stakeholders and published on this web site.
The public consultation period will run until Monday 1st September 2008.
During the intervening period the actions contained in the draft Scheme will begin to be implemented. The new scheme will describe what we have achieved so far and set out what our priorities will be for the next 3 years. The Scheme will include an action plan setting out what we will be doing to deliver our statutory obligations.
The Council revised its previous Race Equality Scheme and this can be accessed via the website. If you would like to receive a copy of the Scheme in an alternative format please contact the Policy and Performance Management Unit on 01639 643332 or e mail policyunit@bridgend.gov.uk
