Why do I need information, advice & guidance?

In a society where young people are bombarded with information from the internet, T.V., radio, magazines and newspapers, friends, parents and teacher (to name a few!!) it can be difficult to make sense of everything that is out there.

If you need to know something, more often than not you need to know right now! You also need to be able to trust that your source is giving you reliable information.

Bridgend Youth Service’s range of information based projects has a common aim. To support young people in providing them with the best possible information, advice and guidance so that every choice you make can be made because you have thought about what is best for you using the best information available to you. All ‘Just @sk’ projects and initiatives are set up to tell young people in Bridgend all about the range of services, activities and resources available to them locally, nationally and internationally.

Young people are at the centre of everything we do and therefore we try to ensure that where possible young people fully participate in shaping the way our services our delivered by advising us on our projects, supporting us in

designing our services and our resources and training as youth workers, facilitators and peer educators to signpost others to services out there for 11 –25 year olds.

The Youth Counselling Service in Bridgend provides free, confidential counselling in schools, youth centres and other community venues across BCBC to young people aged 11 to 25 years old. Counselling is about talking about problems that may be bothering you. It can help you deal with things that need sorting out and to come to terms with those that can’t.

New Young Person’s Website Coming Soon…

Bridgend Children’s and Young People’s Partnership is currently encouraging young people in and around the Bridgend area to create a web site for young people aged between 11 and 25. This web site will contain a variety of things which will be beneficial to you in your local area, keeping you up to date with issues which affect you, and giving you all the information you need. As well as this, you will have the opportunity to read about things which are important to you, view issue based films made by others in the area and much more. This web site offers the opportunity to communicate with others and to become more involved in your community. However, we have not yet thought of a name for this web site. The name can be anything, if anyone has any ideas, or would like to become involved in developing and creating this web site, please contact Sarah on justask@bridgend.gov.uk or on 01656 815150.
