Bridgend Youth Dance members

If you are between the ages of seven and 25 and interested in dance, Bridgend Youth Dance is the place for you!

The scheme, which is supported by the Arts Council of Wales, encourages participation through basic dance experience and targets the untapped talents of those wishing to further their skills through workshops, educational visits and performances.

 

Two Bridgend Youth Dance members

Young dancers have the opportunity to input their own ideas and to work alongside professional dance artists to devise material for future productions, acting as an important ‘stepping stone’ for those wishing to pursue a career in the dance industry.

 

What to expect when you join Bridgend Youth Dance

Regular classes and workshops.

Strong links with Dance Diversions Dance Company.

Lectures and demonstrations with local and national dance companies.

Access to National Dance initiatives.

Visits to dance conservatories.

 

Our aims

Bring contemporary dance and movement to young people.

Ensure that dance is at the forefront, along with drama and music.

Help young people to build on their choreographic and performance skills.

Enhance the learning and career development of young people.

Recognise links between dance and improved physical health.

Build confidence and self esteem in young people.

Encourage leadership, communication skills and team work.

Raise awareness of dance as a career path to creative industries.

 

Recent achievements

Bridgend Youth Dance male dancer

2004:
Performed at the Dublin Youth Dance Festival.

2005 onwards:
Performed at Diversions Dance House.

2008:
Sian Rowlands (BYD senior member), winner of the Diversions award for Professional Conduct.

2009:
Pavilion Dance Fest, BYD perform a brand new piece ‘Happenstance’ created by Paul Davies with original music created by composer Richard Elfyn Jones in the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl. Performed during Bridgend Youth Theatre’s April production of ‘Return to Milk Wood’, in the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl.

Bridgend Youth Dance (7 – 25 years)
Summer term starting Monday 9 May 2011.
Bridgend Youth Dance classes and workshops are held in the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl.
Places must be booked in advance.
Prices start from £40 per term.
