Experiences of fostering
|
A foster child and two foster carers from Bridgend county borough use poetry to express their thoughts and feelings relating to their experiences of fostering.
A foster child’s dream |
I live in a very friendly street Where peace is a regular everyday treat But not in a house that’s just down the road But in a foster kids happy and humble abode. It’s owned by Mr& Mrs D And three squabbly kids that won’t let be There’s always a welcome as you walk through the door But what lays ahead is worse, and there’s more. There’s always a foster kid running about Like a fan at a footy match leading a rout. Their ages are variable and that’s not all They come in all sizes, large, thin and small. Just before meal time, soon before bed There’s always a table of kids to be fed. They’re filled with food, and good healthy grub Then it’s off one by one for a soak in the tub. And when they’re all sleeping, and laying at rest There’s silence, which No.10 finds simply the best. But if I was a foster child, I know where I’d be In a warm loving foster home, with a mum like Mrs D. By an anonymous foster child. |
The New Arrival |
He came to us A seedling, blown on the wind “Just a couple of days”, they said, “I love you”, he said. “You can’t”, I said…. ……..But he did The seed was sown. Roots burrowed into our Minds and hearts. The tendrils grew, Encircled our lives “I love you”, he said. “You don’t know us”, I said….. …….But he did Weeks florrished on, Into months, He stayed and grew strong.. The trust and respect Flowered profusely “Do you love me?” he said. “Yes. I do” I said….. ……And I did! By an anonymous foster carer. |
