Welcome to the Public Rights of Way pages for Bridgend County Borough Council. Here you will find information covering all aspects of Public Rights of Way and access to the countryside. Bridgend is covered by a network of over 750 individual public rights of way, totalling almost 590km, which vary in the rights and type of user that can use them.

Public Rights of Way are recorded on the Definitive Map and Statement and these documents are the legal record for public footpaths, bridleways, byways and restricted byways. The map illustrates the line of the path and the statement gives a brief worded description of each route. The Rights of Way section also manages the off road cycle tracks and access to the Open Access land in Bridgend County Borough. In addition it currently promotes over 15 recreational routes and provides the secretariat for the Bridgend Local Access Forum. Public footpaths are not to be confused with highway footways, for example pavements to the side of the road, which are the responsibility of the Highway Maintenance Section.
