Care Services in the Home - in-house Home Care Services
Bridgend County Borough Council is committed to promoting people's independence and enabling people to live as independently as possible in their own homes. If following an assessment of need, you are felt to need some assistance to continue to live at home independently; the Home Care Service may play a vital part in achieving this.
Home Care Workers offer a range of personal assistance services, which may include help with personal care, such as getting up, washed and dressed; preparing for bed at night, help with eating and drinking, shopping and domestic tasks.
Hours of Operation
The Home Care Service operates 365 days per year mainly between the hours of 8am and 10pm, although earlier and later calls may be available.
Night sitting is provided between 10pm and 7am.
We try to provide calls at the times people prefer although this may not always be possible, particularly in the morning, which is our busiest time. Priority is given to the most vulnerable people and those with specific medical needs.
The service we provide
Home Care Workers:
- Will provide the help agreed in your care and service delivery plans; but they are not authorised to provide additional help.
- Will only able to prompt you with your medication when it is included in the Care Plan and Service Delivery Plan. They must have received specific training and follow our procedure.
- Will not be unable to undertake any medical or nursing duties for which they are not trained or qualified.
- Unfortunately the staff are not allowed to carry out any tasks which may place them at risk, such as moving heavy objects, working at height or using faulty electrical equipment.
Quality Assurance
Home Care workers and their Managers receive training to enable them to provide the service according to The Regulations and the National Minimum Standards for Domiciliary Care in Wales. They work in accordance with the Code of Conduct of the Care Council for Wales
Paying for the Service
You may be entitled to up to six weeks free care services in the home if you have just been in hospital and were not receiving Home Care before your admission.
You may be asked to contribute towards the cost of the service, depending on your financial circumstances and the number of hours service you receive.
Your Care Manager will be able to give you an Information Sheet, which will tell you more about how your charges are worked out.
