Out of hours service
The Public Protection Department provides an out of hours service to deal with emergencies and the types of service requests that are considered emergencies are given below:
|
Pollution Incidents |
these are spillages, industrial or commercial fires, flytipping of hazardous material when it presents a risk to the public or incidents where emergency services request the department's attendance |
|
Infectious Disease Notifications |
including food poisoning notifications |
|
Dangerous Structures |
which require immediate attendance to prevent danger to the public |
|
Buildings |
that are open to unauthorised access and present an imminent risk to the health and safety of members of the public |
|
Serious Accidents at Work |
(fatality or serious injury) |
|
Car Alarms |
that have been sounding continually for more than 15 minutes |
|
Audible Intruder Alarms |
that have been sounding for more than 30 minutes |
If your complaint is an emergency and falls within one of the categories listed above you should contact us on 01656 643643 and hold to speak to an advisor when the problem is occurring.
The staff manning the telephone will then ring the duty officer who will be asked to contact you. If the officer deems that it is necessary to undertake a site visit, the visit will be made as soon as it is reasonably practicable to do so. It is anticipated that this response time will be within 1½ hours following contact by the duty officer.
If the duty officer perceives there to be a risk to his or her personal safety, the officer may refuse to visit the site.
Members of the public who contact the out of hours service for non-emergencies will either be informed to contact the Public Protection Department the following working day or details of the complaint will be taken at the time and forwarded to the Public Protection Department.
