Food Business Establishment Application Form
Certain types of premises may need approval under an additional regulation. Regulation (EC) No.853/2004 lays down specific rules of hygiene for Products Of Animal Origin (POAO). POAO can be processed or unprocessed e.g.- raw or cooked. This regulation will apply to premises handling POAO, such as – for slaughter, raw meat, minced meat, meat preparations, meat products, live bivalve molluscs, fishery products, raw milk and dairy products, eggs and egg products.
This will apply mainly to businesses handling and supplying POAO to other establishments (usually on a large scale).
This type of food business will need to fill in a different, more detailed form and will be subject to stricter regulation. This is due to the business posing a higher risk due to the type of food business operation and the distribution to more consumers.
There are exemptions to this requirement in certain circumstances. If the food business supplies food of an animal origin to the final consumer (person who will be eating the product), then approval will not be required. The type of business that this exemption will apply to would include catering establishments, canteens, cafes, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
There are other exemptions that are available, which relate to the size and extent of the POAO being supplied.
