The Council is committed to encouraging more people to walk and cycle, particularly as alternatives to using the car for local journeys.
This includes trips to work and school, and to town centres to help more people have access to shopping, leisure or health facilities.
Since 2002 we have attracted over £1.5 million in Transport Grant funding from the Welsh Assembly Government to develop routes around Bridgend town centre, with links to Brackla, Broadlands, Cefn Glas and Laleston.
Through the Welsh Assembly Government’s Safe Routes in Communities programme (formerly Safe Routes to Schools) we have also worked with a number of schools and community groups to provide facilities that enable more people to walk and cycle to school, and make journeys within their local communities without using the car.
