How to find us

Private Rented Sector

Thinking of moving into private rented accommodation?

There are several letting agencies within the County Borough that can assist you in obtaining private rented accommodation as well as the Council. You can also obtain information in local newspapers, the property news or for further information online about Bridgend Letting Agents go to the UKpropertyshop

The advantages of renting privately are:

You can usually move in quickly

You have a greater choice of size, type and location of the property

You can normally choose whether the property is furnished or not

It’s flexible if you're looking for short-term accommodation, for instance, if you're a student or working on a temporary contract

Changes to the Law for Landlords and Tenants

From the 6 April 2007, a new tenancy deposit law was introduced that gives more protection to tenants by preventing landlords and letting agents from unfairly withholding a tenants deposit. The scheme protects all Assured Shorthold Tenancies, covering most tenancies since 1997.

Tenancy Deposit Protection ensures:

You get all or part of your deposit back, when you are entitled to it

Any disputes between you and your landlord or agent will be easier to resolve

Landlords and letting agents who do not protect tenancy deposits will have to pay their tenant back three times the deposit

Further information can be found on the Directgov website.

Harassment & Illegal Eviction

If you are a landlord, the Harassment & Illegal Eviction Leaflet can help you avoid some common legal pitfalls by providing advice and support on illegal eviction and harassment. If you are a tenant, the Shelter Cymru Harassment & Illegal Eviction Guide for Tenants will provide advice on how the law protects people living in a residential property against harassment and illegal eviction.

If you have a property to rent

If you have an empty property to rent, please contact the Housing Opportunities and Innovation Officer on 01656 643620 to discuss possible options for your property.
