Neighbour / Residential Complaints Garden Fires
Garden Fires
The department often receives complaints regarding smoke from garden bonfires. Sometimes the smoke can amount to a statutory nuisance and the department may be able to use its powers under the Environmental Protection Act to serve a Legal Notice requiring action to be taken to prevent the nuisance occurring again in the future
For more information regarding this process please see Neighbour Nuisance. When having garden bonfires you should consider what alternative means of disposing of the waste are available, and where possible, choose the most environmentally friendly option. Our Garden Fires - Advice Leaflet, contains information on how to minimise any possible nuisance to your neighbours if you do have a fire.
