Waste management

The council's waste management service deals with refuse collections, recycling, kerbside collections, civic amenity sites, dog fouling and litter enforcement, abandoned car disposal, diabetic needle collections, waste minimisation and recycling education.
Waste is one of Wales' biggest environmental problems; a problem that we all contribute to as individuals on a daily basis. The average household throws away about 1 tonne of waste each year.
In June 2002, the Welsh Assembly Government published its National Waste Strategy entitled "Wise about Waste". The Strategy sets out objectives for waste management for Wales and places a high priority on minimising waste production, diverting waste away from landfill sites and, where practicable, recovering value from waste through recycling, composting and energy from waste.
To achieve these objectives the Welsh Assembly Government introduced targets for local authorities to achieve by Reducing, Re-using and Recycling.
