What are the new services?

Starting last June households now have a weekly collection of recyclable materials. The small amount of non recyclable materials that remain are collected in landfill sacks once every fortnight on the same weekday as your recycling. So you do not have to remember different collection days only that landfill waste are collected fortnightly.

How do I store my recycling?

Please use the two existing black boxes for paper (in one box) and glass, drink cartons (tetra paks) and cardboard (in the second box). You are also provided with a blue re-usable sack which you can use to recycle plastics, food and drink cans, aerosols and foil. If you do not have any black recycling boxes please contact the council on Bridgend 643643.

How do I store my food waste?

Households have been provided with a kitchen waste caddy and a kitchen waste bin. The kitchen caddy is a small plastic bin which can be kept in your kitchen. You have also been provided with compostable bags to line the caddy and help keep it clean.

How do I use my kitchen food waste containers?

Scraps of food can be put directly into the kitchen caddy and when the compostable bag is full it can be removed and placed into the kitchen waste bin which can be kept outside. Please put the kitchen waste bin out for collection each week.

I've used the roll of compostable bags I received with my kitchen bin, am I entitled to any more?

You will be given enough compostable bags to use three per week. New bags will be delivered every four months, but if you run out of bags you can wrap the food waste in newspaper to help keep your container clean.

Can I put my house number on my containers?

Yes, that would be a good idea. It would also help the collection crews to return your containers.

Where will my recycling waste go after it is collected?

Your recycling waste is taken to various recycling companies to be made into other materials.

What will happen to my food waste after it is recycled?

Your food waste is taken to something called an anaerobic digester, and the treated food will generate energy and produce fertiliser.
