Bridgend County Borough Council is committed to eliminating discrimination against disabled people and ensuring that disabled people can participate fully as equal citizens.
The social model of disability underpins the Council’s commitments. The Council believes the barriers that exclude disabled people from full participation in society are the result of the way the social and built environments are constructed, and society’s attitude towards disabled people.
The Council will ensure that in carrying out all of its duties disabled people are free from prejudice and discrimination in their everyday lives.
Draft Disability Equality Scheme 2006-2009.
Under the specific duties of the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, the Council is required to produce a Disability Equality Scheme setting out its plans for making equality happen for people living in Bridgend County Borough. Read more about the draft Scheme and Action Plan
