BRIDGEND GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION |

Bridgend Governors Association is an independent body, which serves to support the interest of school governors and governing bodies through out the Borough of Bridgend. The Association is managed and run by volunteers Governors
The primary aims of the Association are: -

To bring governors together and provide a collective voice representing the majority view of the association’s members in matters that cause concern over the education and welfare of children and young people in the County; |
|
Represent all governors and school governing bodies within Bridgend. |
|
Offer advice, help and support to all governors and governing bodies in Bridgend; |
|
Assist governors to have a greater knowledge and understanding regarding issues that affect the running and governance of their schools, and support and promote the delivery of quality training for all governors; |
|
Promote, support and encourage cooperation with the LEA, Governors Wales, Welsh Assembly Government and other relevant bodies, for the benefit of all governors and school governing bodies; |
|
Regularly consult and inform all members on issues affecting them and the governance of their school; |
|
Be independent of control by any other body and be non party-political. |
Membership
Membership of the Association is automatic for all those Governors sitting on governing bodies of schools within the Bridgend County Borough. The Association has a management committee from which each year executive officers are elected.
For the year commencing September 2009 the Association officers are: -

Membership of the general management committee is open to all Bridgend Governors and we welcome anyone who wishes to participate and help us promote the interests of Governors

The association holds it’s main committee meetings at least once per term. There are also additional sub committees which meet on a more frequent basis to deal with issues such the Associations response to Consultation.
Our main meetings are rotated around various schools throughout Bridgend, corresponding the school cluster areas. Governors from the cluster group are forwarded an agenda and invited to attend the meeting.
Details of the meeting are also published in the “Governor” bulletin that is sent out at the beginning of every term so that any other governor that wishes to attend a meeting may do so.
The Association has representation on a number of BCBC internal working committees where we provide the Governors perspective to the issues under discussion.

We would be pleased to hear from any member who may have a specialist interest in a topic or just have a general interest in that particular area of education and who would like to represent the Association on internal working committees of this kind.

We are always looking for suggestions for articles for the bulletin and are more than pleased to include contributions from our members and others who may have something that will be of interest to Governors

Governor Survey
In 2007 the Association undertook a comprehensive survey of Bridgend Governors to establish what they expected from the Association. The findings from that survey form the basis on which the Association has set its agenda. For a summary of the questionnaire findings click here
