Noise Control – Noise from Loudspeakers in the Street
Noise from Loudspeakers in the Street
The Public Protection Department’s Pollution Control Team receives between 1100 and 1200 complaints every year over three quarters of which are from domestic sources. These include loud stereo music, barking dog and DIY noise. The remaining quarter are due to industrial and commercial sources such as pubs and clubs, factories and construction sites.
The noise and Statutory Nuisance Act 1993 added noise emitted or caused by a vehicle, machinery or equipment in a street to the list of statutory nuisances contained in the Environmental Protection Act 1990. If you are experiencing a problem of this kind or need advice, please contact the Pollution Control Team.
