Noise from Music in Cars
The Public Protection Department’s Pollution Control Team receives between 1100 and 1200 complaints every year over three quarters of which are from domestic sources. These include loud stereo music, barking dog and DIY noise. The remaining quarter are due to industrial and commercial sources such as pubs and clubs, factories and construction sites.
Noise from music in cars may amount to a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. If you are experiencing a problem of loud music from a car or want to report a vehicle, please contact the Pollution Control Team.
