Noise Control – Noise from DIY Works
Noise from DIY Works
The Public Protection Department’s Pollution Control Team receives between 1100 and 1200 complaints every year over three quarters of which are from domestic sources. These include loud stereo music, barking dog and DIY noise. The remaining quarter are due to industrial and commercial sources such as pubs and clubs, factories and construction sites.
Noise from DIY (do it yourself) activity can be annoying as people may create noise at times when their neighbours want to enjoy the peace and quiet of their homes. Most of us expect a little DIY noise now and again, but if it happens frequently or continues into the night it may amount to a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. If you re experiencing problems of DIY noise or wish to receive advice, please contact the Pollution Control Team.
