Food Poisoning

Duties of the Environmental Health Department

Food poisoning is the main type of infectious disease that our department investigates. There are many types of bacteria that can cause it.

The following links provide more information on the most common causes of food poisoning, what to do if you think you have been affected and how our department will investigate possible cases. Please click on the links for more information.

Please note: you are required to inform your employer, GP or Environmental Health Officer (EHO) of illness if you are:

A food handler preparing or handling food and/or drink, including open food, bar work, supermarkets etc.

A health, care or nursery staff or any other staff member who has contact through serving food with highly susceptible patients or those to whom food poisoning would have particularly serious consequences.

Please contact us to report such illness or to make a complaint about premises you think may be linked to your illness.
