I’ve just become a parent. What do I need to do to officially register my child?
Congratulations on your new arrival! Your midwife will give you a leaflet called ‘Registration of baby’s Birth’ which explains where you can register your child and what information you will need to provide.
Do I have to register the baby in the area he or she was born?
Yes - the birth of your baby needs to be registered in the district where the birth took place. So if your baby was born at the Princess of Wales Hospital or at home anywhere within Bridgend County Borough, you will need to register the birth at one of the following locations:
- Bridgend Register Office, Monday – Friday between 9.30am and 4pm.
- Trinity Church in Porthcawl, Mondays only between 10am – 12.30am. “Please note that this is by appointment only at this venue. Please ring 01656 642393 to make necessary arrangements first”
- Maesteg College in Castle Street, Maesteg, Tuesdays between 9.30am. – 12.30pm and on Fridays between 9.30am – 12.30pm only.
- Pyle Life Centre in Pyle, Thursdays only between 2.30pm – 3.30pm. Please note that this is by appointment only at this venue, so call (01656) 642391 to make necessary arrangements first.
What if it’s too difficult for me to get to any of these venues?
