Bus Corridors

Since 2001, more than £1.5m has been invested in improvements to the county borough’s bus corridors and routes.

Enhancements have been made to many routes in the Bridgend, Pencoed, Porthcawl, Cornelly, Cefn Cribwr, Careau, Pyle areas and also in the Garw, Ogmore and Llynfi valleys.

bus stop

Over 200 stops have been improved and many vandal-prone stone and timber shelters have been replaced with new aluminium and polycarbonate models that are safer for bus travellers to use and easier to clean and maintain.

Level access kerbs have been introduced to improve disabled access, pedestrian crossing islands have given better access to stops, buses have been given priority at traffic lights, street lights have been upgraded and speed limit zones have been extended.

Combined with other highway and footpath improvements and the introduction of a cycle path network, the council is improving access to public transport for the whole community and providing a genuine alternative to the car as part of the Welsh Assembly Government's aim of creating integrated travel throughout Wales.
