The service aims to ensure that fair-trading is carried out in Bridgend County Borough so that consumers can purchase goods and services with confidence in the knowledge that they are safe, correctly priced and accurately described. Similarly, trade and business activity can be carried out without fear that they are subjected to unfair competition from those operating outside the law.
The Trading Standards Service is responsible for the enforcement of over a hundred Acts of Parliament and a thousand associated regulations and European Directives. The service aim to provide help and assistance to both consumers and local businesses. Inspections are conducted on a risk-assessed basis. Products are purchased for testing and analysis and advice is given to local businesses on how to comply with legislation enforced by the service.
In addition, the Trading Standards Team conducts surveys into specific products and trading practises. When breaches of criminal legislation are discovered, the service conducts investigations which can result in prosecution of the businesses involved.
