Countryside Strategy and Integrated Action Programme for Bridgend County Borough First Review

Introduction

A Countryside Strategy and Integrated Action Programme for Bridgend County Borough was first prepared for the area in 1998. Its main goal to promote Local Agenda 21 through sustainable development and a partnership approach. Now, some two years later, in light of new initiatives and legislation and in line with guidance prepared by the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), a revised Countryside Strategy and Integrated Action Programme for Bridgend County Borough is being developed.

These revised documents will build on the success of the original Countryside Strategy and Integrated Action Programme and seek to further promote the Local Agenda 21 process.

Scope

The Countryside Strategy and Integrated Action Programme are concerned with the conservation and enhancement of natural, semi natural and man made features of the countryside, urban fringe and green open spaces that Bridgend County Borough has to offer. Instrumental to this work is the CCW which has provided grant aid for the development of the Strategy and which has published advisory documents. Using this advice and other existing strategies, the Countryside Strategy will be a consolidating document, which will form the basis for an Integrated Action Programme, which sets out a series of projects that implement the Countryside Strategy.

Issues are derived from five core topic areas, namely:

o Landscape Conservation and Enhancement
