The average household throws away about 1 tonne of waste each year - so why not use the council's Kerbside Collection Scheme to recycle your glass, paper and textiles.

Plastics and drinks cans are automatically sorted and recycled from refuse at the sorting plant, the only reason glass, paper and textiles need to be separated is because they can be easily soiled and contaminated with liquids that could spoil them, making them difficult to recycle.

Recycling: we're one of the best!

Performance figures have revealed that Bridgend County Borough is one of the best areas for landfill diversion in Wales. Since 2006/07 the amount of waste sent to landfill decreased from 48% to 44% which is much better than the national average. Over the same period the percentage of recycled and composted waste rose from 30% to 34.5% and waste used to recover heat and power rose from 10% to 18%.

Well done everyone, but we can do even better if we want to be the best in Wales – so let’s all get recycling!
