Feastival gives visitors true flavour of Bridgend
Thousands of visitors got a taste of local and Welsh produce and a flavour of Bridgend itself when they visited the town’s alternative food festival.
The record-breaking temperatures on 30 September and 01 October were matched by a record-breaking number of visitors to Feastival, with a huge increase compared to last year’s inaugural event.
Feastival, organised by Bridgend County Borough Council, was a showcase of 60 high quality Welsh food and drink exhibitors as well as cookery demonstrations and unusual food events spread across the town’s pedestrianised areas.
The whole event was kicked off with a quirky version of the famous Olympic torch relay; double Olympian Steve Brace, ran, cycled and swam the length of Wales with a giant leek before delivering it to Bridgend for the Feastival opening ceremony.
In addition to the many food exhibitors, there were more unusual attractions such as Britain’s Got Talent’s ‘Marmite on toast’ artist Nathan Wyburn, an Egg Drop Championship, a ‘Leek Lobbing’ competition, the Leaning Tower of Pizza and chefs on stilts.
As well as flocking to Feastival’s many stalls and attractions, shoppers also helped increase local trade with businesses in the town centre and the indoor market.
