Keep your cool in the heat wave
With temperatures set to soar to over 30 degrees this week, Bridgend County Borough Council is urging residents to be safe in the sun.
Following a heat wave warning issued by the Met Office, people are reminded to check on elderly friends and family who may be more vulnerable in the hot weather.
The following advice may also be useful:
- Avoid going out in the hottest part of the day (11am-3pm) if possible.
- If you must go out, stay in the shade where possible. Wear a hat and light, loose-fitting clothes, and take plenty of water with you.
- Make sure that you regularly apply sun cream with a minimum sun protection factor of 15.
- When inside, stay in the coolest rooms in your home as much as possible and close the curtains in rooms that get a lot of sun.
- Drink regularly even if you do not feel thirsty – water and fruit juice are best. Avoid tea, coffee and alcohol as they can cause dehydration.
- Remember the needs of friends, relatives and neighbours who could be at risk.
