Don’t spoil the sunshine
With record temperatures expected later this week, Bridgend County Borough Council is reminding visitors and local residents alike to act responsibly so that everyone can enjoy the sunshine.
Dogs are allowed on beaches at Newton, Sker and Pink Bay throughout the year, but between now and the end of September, they are not allowed at Rest Bay, the Porthcawl seafront beach, Coney Beach, Sandy Bay and Trecco Bay, the latter of which also holds Blue Flag status. Owners are being urged to clean up any dog waste that their pets may leave and to dispose of it properly.
Council staff are also working hard to keep local beaches free of rubbish amid concerns that some of it might be dangerous to people taking advantage of the hot weather.
Beach and Water Safety officer Adrian Roberts said: "In the past, we have removed everything from broken glass to disposable barbeques from our beaches. There was an incident in the Gower last week where a young boy stood on hot barbeque coals that had been covered with sand, so obviously we do not want anyone to suffer a similar injury here.
"Rest Bay is a Blue Flag beach and is renowned for its striking coastline, golden sands and good surf. Refuse bins are located at the main entrance to the beach and there are more at the main car park, so there really is no excuse for leaving litter behind.
“We welcome all visitors, but please, act responsibly - don't spoil it for other people by leaving your rubbish behind or letting your dog foul on the beach."
