Safety alert over baby hoodie
Trading Standards Officers at Bridgend County Borough Council have issued an urgent alert to parents who may have purchased a hooded top for babies which does not comply with safety regulations.
The top, which is aimed at infants as young as 12 months, has a loose hood cord which poses a potential strangulation hazard.
The Children’s Clothing (Hood Cords) Regulations 1976 state that garments with a chest measurement of 44cm or less must not be designed to be secured by means of a cord drawn through the material.
Enforcement action has already been taken to ensure that the manufacturers of the garment take steps to remove this potential safety hazard, and local retailers have been advised to remove the hood cord from all garments on sale.
Lee Jones, Group Manager for Public Protection, said: “Anyone who has already purchased this item should simply remove the hood cord to eliminate the hazard it currently poses.”
