Warning over counterfeit vodka

Trading Standards Officers from Bridgend County Borough Council are urging members of the public to look out for counterfeit vodka recently found in the south Wales area.

The counterfeit vodka is packaged in Glen’s Vodka bottles and contains high levels of methanol. The Food Standards Agency is advising people not to drink it as excessive amounts could cause methanol poisoning.

Symptoms can take several hours to develop, so anyone who may have drunk this counterfeit product should seek medical advice.

Genuine Glen’s Vodka (70cl) can be easily identified. It comes in a bottle supplied by Allied Glass Containers, which has a small ‘AGC’ logo on the base. The code ‘70cl 58mm C12173’ is also embossed in the glass, around 5mm from the base.

Members of the public are advised to report any counterfeit Glen’s Vodka to the Trading Standards service on 01656 643260.
