News in brief from Bridgend County Borough
Carols in the Civic Offices
More than 50 pupils from Tremains Junior School will entertain visitors to the Customer Service Centre at the Civic Offices in Angel Street, Bridgend with some festive Christmas carols on Wednesday 17 December at 10am. Local residents are welcome to join staff and visitors at the centre as the children gather around the Christmas tree.
Help with benefits
Since forming in July, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Take Up team has assisted more than 200 local people in getting help with housing benefits, council tax and rent. The team provides information and advice and can carry out simple checks to see if people are eligible. They can also help you make an application and assist with filling out relevant forms. Extra CAB funding
Extra funding is being made available for citizens advice bureaux in Bridgend and Maesteg. Bridgend County Borough Council has provided Bridgend CAB with £46,000 and Maesteg CAB with £44,000 to help deal with increased workloads. The money has been provided on the basis that both CABs look at ways they can develop and merge to offer a single service for the county borough.
Browse for a book
Bridgend Library and Information Service’s reserve collection of books is open to the public. Located at Units 4-5 Sturmi Way on Village Farm Industrial Estate in Pyle, serious book lovers are welcome to visit and browse through more than 100,000 books between between 2pm-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
