Bridgend Student Scoops Young Enterprise Wales Young Achiever

Bridgend County Borough student Angharad Hobby was presented with the Young Enterprise Wales Young Achiever Award at the Welsh Woman of the Year 2008 ceremony on Friday, 21 November.

Brynteg Comprehensive School Student Angharad was presented with the award for her aptitude for teamwork, communication and leadership through running her own company, NRG Enterprises, while in full-time education.

The award is aimed at women aged between 15 and 19 who have taken part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme.

Welsh Woman Awards finalist Bridgend County Borough Council's Chief Executive Jo Farrar was present at the ceremony along with the Council's Leader Councillor Mel Nott and both were impressed with Angharad's drive and ambition. Leader Mel Nott said: "Angharad's achievement is an impressive example to all women. I am sure that her business acumen will stand her in good stead for a continuing successful career. "

Brynteg School's Headteacher Chris Davies added: "Our Young Enterprise company, NRG, won the local and national competitions and represented Wales in the British finals in July. They were well led by Angharad who developed her team building and communication skills through this activity. She combined this with studying for four AS exams. This award is well deserved and a recognition of the hard work, determination and initiative from an outstanding student."
