Ugandan teachers visit Bridgend
Three teachers from White Angels Primary School in Kampala, Uganda have visited Ogmore Vale Primary School in Bridgend County Borough to compare teaching styles. Julius Asiimwe Byaruhanga, Ssentongo Shariff and Eric Kikomeko Ssenkooza attended a civic reception with Bridgend County Borough Mayor Cleone Westwood and visited the Welsh Assembly Government as part of the trip.
Art on display at Kenfig
Local Ysgol y Ferch o’r Sger teacher John Mason will be exhibiting his acrylic paintings of the area between Sker House and the Kenfig River at Kenfig National Nature Reserve throughout November. The paintings feature his humorous take on sheep and also tell the adventures of a shepherd called Ben. View the paintings between 2pm - 4.45pm Monday to Friday and 10am - 4pm on weekends.
Advice over new fire laws
Public Protection officers from Bridgend County Borough Council are producing advice for local landlords and property agents following a change in regulations designed to cut the number of house fires. With more than 300,000 fires at residential properties every year, the new guidance will take into account issues such as the use of interlinked smoke detectors to establish smoke-free escape routes.
Stores pass fireworks test
Twelve local shops passed an underage sales test carried out by Public Protection officers from Bridgend County Borough Council in the run-up to bonfire night. The officers used underage volunteers to attempt to buy fireworks and were pleased to report that in every case, each shop refused to sell the items. It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18.
