New parenting committee for looked-after children
Bridgend County Borough Council Cabinet members have agreed to set up a new Corporate Parenting Committee aimed at giving looked-after children even better care and opportunities.
As well as Cabinet members, the committee is likely to include a Youth Council representative and a representative of looked-after children, plus parenting “champions” from the authority’s overview and scrutiny committees.
The committee, which will meet at least four times year, will look at producing a corporate parenting policy statement and a charter for children in care, as well as the development of work experience and trainee employment opportunities within the council.
Councillor Alana Davies, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “This is a subject which is close to my heart and I very much welcome this report.
“This committee will strengthen the role of councillors as corporate parents and give looked-after children and those leaving care even better support and opportunities.”
