Council welcomes investment boost for Ford Bridgend
The Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, Councillor Mel Nott, has welcomed news that Ford is to invest £70m in its engine plant at Bridgend.
The company has announced that the factory will produce a new generation of low CO2 petrol engines. The new engines will go into production within two years.
Councillor Nott said: "This is excellent news for the county borough and highlights Ford's continuing commitment to this area and its confidence in our workforce to deliver.
"These are difficult economic times so it is encouraging to hear such positive news for the plant and its 2,000 workers."
Ford inaugurated its plant in Bridgend in May 1980 and since then the workforce has built engines for over 13 million Ford Motor company vehicles.
The company has invested more than £300m in the plant over the last five years. Capacity will increase to almost one million engines a year and the Bridgend plant will be the sole global source of the clean energy engine.
