Residents Consulted On Waste Management
Bridgend County Borough Council has consulted with more than 604 residents about what they think of its waste management service and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
The consultation found that householders in the county borough are very satisfied with the refuse collection service, with 99% of respondents indicating that their refuse is always collected on the correct day and 97% of respondents rated the refuse collection service as very or quite good, with only 1% expressing dissatisfaction with the service.
The consultation showed 75% of responants supported recycling initiatives in the county borough by recycling some household waste. 92% of respondents expressed support for the presence of litter and dog fouling enforcement officers in the county borough, although only 38% were aware that enforcement officers already patrol the county borough every day. Because of this, the enforcement officers now wear high visibility vests with 'Enforcement Officer' written on the back, as well as driving clearly marked vehicles.
Councillor Patricia Hacking, Cabinet Member responsible for Environmental and Planning said: "The consultation shows that satisfaction levels relating to refuse collection are significantly higher than in 1995, when the Community Satisfaction Survey was carried out. However the council isn't complacent about these results and is working with Biffa Waste Services, who took over the waste collection contract, to make sure that the service continues to get even better."
The council is urging members of the public to let us know of any litter hotspots by calling its Clean Up The County helpline on (01656) 643443. And remember, the fine for dropping litter or a cigarette butt has increased from £25 to £75. Since the fine was increased in 1 April, more than 125 fixed penalties have been served - so please dispose of your litter responsibly.
