A Guide To Adult Social Care

Bridgend Adult Learning –Learning is for everyone!

In Bridgend County Borough there are many different options for learning – no matter what you age. As an authority we strong recognise the wider benefits of learning for all – including older people. Sometimes, barriers can arise to learning opportunities. Barriers such as

- Poor health and disabilities;

- Conflicting care responsibilities

- Lack of information

- Confidence and qualifications

- Inaccessible facilities and transport difficulties

- Age discrimination

- Cost

Locally we recognise these barriers and therefore at every possible opportunity we work to eradicate these problems people face to engaging with lifelong learning. Bridgend Adult Community Learning feel its important to recognise barriers faced by learners and strive to work with partners to offer a wide range of accredited and non accredited, formal and informal learning experiences.

Adult Community Learning currently offer courses in 31 different venues across the County Borough including schools, church halls and community centres – all offering daytime and evening provision.

The wide range of learning opportunities include areas such as art; beauty and holistic therapies, computers, cookery, crafts, dance, flower arranging, languages, music, personal development, digital photography, social studies, textile crafts, woodcraft and yoga and relaxation.

Other opportunities are also available through the large range of courses provided in collaboration with Partner Organisations in the County Borough – click here to see Bridgend College or the University of Glamorgan

All members of society over the age of 16 are encouraged to join our community learning programmes. Charges are kept low and concessions are granted where appropriate.
