HOME MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRE FOR PEOPLE OVER THE OF 50
A GUIDE TO MAINTAINING YOUR OWN HOME
Housing and health care service inevitably become more important to people as they grow older and many can eventually need support to maintain their independence at home. Helping older people to find the support services that they need is therefore an important facet of supporting an older person to remain independent for as long as possible.
Bridgend County Care and Repair, in partnership with the Never Too Old Action Team have received funding through the Strategy for Older People in Wales to develop a home maintenance and repairs manual – because it is recognised that a healthy home is a key component to independent living.
The pack contains a variety of information relating to Home maintenance and is specially aimed at people over the age of 50 in the County Borough of Bridgend. It includes sections relating to damp and condensation, insulation, safety and security and other relevant information in relation to repairs and home maintenance issues
Few things in a home are maintenance free but preventative maintenance is still far more cost effective than waiting until something breaks down. It can help to avoid repairs, extend the life expectancy of many components and, in some cases, reduce energy consumption. Your house is the biggest investment that you are ever going to make, and for older people to be able to spot, and intervene early is so important to supporting the independence of older people by ensuring that their home is safe and secure to live in.
