A Charter for the over fifties – Age Positive Commitments from Organisations service older people in Bridgend County Borough
Individuals live in societies and societies are made up of individuals. The two constantly interact, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in tension and conflict. The latter can arise when there is a difference between societal structures and the way that individuals actually lead their lives.
“Each person has the right to a life which maintains personal independence, safeguards privacy, offers genuine and informed choices, provides opportunities to enjoy and contribute to society as fully as possible.”

This is the first document of its type to be produced in Wales, and sets a level for other local authorities to work towards across the county. The charter has been created for older people in Bridgend County Borough, by Older People in Bridgend County Borough.
A small group was formed with representatives from the Bridgend County Borough Council, Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations, Bridgend Local Health Board and SHOUT – the unified voice of the older community. This has now resulted in this example of best practice, for all local organisations to consider adopting into their practices.
The steering group would like to take this opportunity to thanks all those who contributed to the development of this document. The Charter places Bridgend at the forefront of championing the rights, hopes, expectations and need of its older citizens, and is something we can all be proud of.
