How to find us

Sustainable DevelopmentSustainable local economy

Due to the impact of climate change and the uncertainty of natural resources we are faced with an uncertain future. We therefore need to ensure we can adapt and respond to the changes that may affect our communities. We need to ensure we are able to buy the food and products that we need.

One of the ways of doing this is to support the development of local skills and promote the use of our local resources and produce. We also need to ensure we equip our businesses with the awareness, information and tools to ‘green’ their businesses, reduce their CO2 emissions and use resources more efficiently.

How is Bridgend CBC encouraging a sustainable local economy?

Sustainable Procurement Strategy

The Council has now adopted a Sustainable Procurement Strategy, which sets out the opportunities for maximising value for money, whilst realising opportunities for supporting local supply arrangements, community benefits, environmental considerations and fair-trade & ethical procurement.

To view a copy of the strategy please contact the Sustainable Development Team.

Green Dragon Supply Chain Project

The Council has engaged in an energy efficiency programme with 10 of its suppliers. Members of the Economic Development Team are providing assistance to suppliers make environmental improvements and reduce their energy consumption by 5%.

Local Food Projects

There are a number of different projects co-ordinated by reach, the Rural Development Programme in Bridgend, which aim to strengthen the local economy and make the most of our natural resources and produce. Projects include a Real Food Box, connecting local food to local consumers, and the Local Food Directory which publicises local producers.

Please click here to view the reach website and read more about the projects.
