Biodiversity

What is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity is a contraction of two terms – Biology AND Diversity

It describes variability among living organisms from all sources (terrestrial, marine and fresh water) and includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems.

Working with, and appreciating the environment requires and involves support of biodiversity

How Biodiversity serve humanity?

Biodiversity provides the following:

  • contrasting environment for life
  • different food choices
  • resources for enhancement of lifestyle (habitation, heating, nutritional diversity, aesthetic diversity etc.)
  • Regulates ecosystem – (i) at the local level (flood, disease, water purification), and, (ii) at the planetary level (climate)

Bridgend County Borough is privileged to contain unique ecosystems accorded special national & international status, home to protected species
