We provide a fortnightly black bag collection for materials that cannot be recycled through our kerbside recycling collection service.
As part of the service, residents are required to put their bags out no earlier than 7pm on the evening before collection, which begins at 7am the next day. This helps to avoid bags from becoming torn and causing littering problems. Residents who put their bags out outside of these times risk facing a £100 fixed penalty notice or even prosecution under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Please be careful when placing your bags out for collection to avoid accidents among passing pedestrians. Please carefully wrap any sharp objects in newspaper, as this will avoid injury to our refuse operatives.
Unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather conditions can cause collection times to vary.
Items not accepted in black bags:
- Garden waste
- DIY items – paint, paint tins, stones, gravel, rubble, builders’ waste, tiles
- Clinical waste - medical waste, needles
- Dead pets
- Cooking oil
- Engine oil
- Electrical items
- Trade waste
- Hazardous waste (solvents, chemicals, paint, engine oil, batteries, fluorescent tubes and light bulbs containing mercury, poisons, baits)
To avoid rubbish ending up in landfill, please recycle as much as possible. To find out your collection day, please click here
