Waste removal

If waste is removed from your home by an unregistered waste carrier and illegally dumped, you can be prosecuted.

Under waste ‘duty of care’ regulations, residents must ensure that all household, garden and construction waste is disposed of properly, using licensed operators.

If illegally dumped waste can be traced back to your home and you haven’t made a reasonable effort to make sure that it’s disposed of properly, you could be fined up to £5000.

Building and allied trades, house clearers, retailers and scrap metal dealers all usually require a waste carrier’s license, so make sure you stay on the right side of the law by always asking for their license number before they get started.

If a contractor can’t supply their waste carrier number please refuse their service and tell them to speak to the Environment Agency on 08708 506506.

Householders can dispose of their waste free of charge at our local community recycling centres, and residents can also use our bulky waste collection service. Similar services can be accessed from registered waste carriers here.
