Draft Candidate Site Assessment Procedure Consultation

A key element in developing the Bridgend LDP is the identification of suitable sites for future housing, employment, transportation proposals, retailing, and other main land uses such as recreation and leisure and community facilities. As a part of this process, the Council invited submissions from landowners, developers and other interested parties to submit candidate sites for future development between the 9th November 2006 and the 31st January 2007. As a result, a significant number of potential sites (over 400) were submitted to the Council for its consideration through the LDP process.

The suggested sites have been compiled in a ‘Candidate Sites Register’, which was published in April 2007.

In order to assess the sites which have been put forward for possible inclusion in the deposit LDP, the Council has developed a site assessment procedure (see links below), which will be applied to all of the Candidate Sites contained in the Candidate Site Register, together with any additional sites which may emerge from ongoing evidence gathering exercises, technical studies undertaken by, or on behalf of the Council, and those unimplemented sites allocated within the currently adopted Bridgend Unitary Development Plan (UDP).

LDP regulations do not require the Council to consult on the Candidate Site Assessment Procedure. However it is considered appropriate to conduct a limited informal consultation exercise to provide transparency on the assessment procedure and ascertain views and opinions to inform and adjust the process if considered appropriate.

The Council would be interested to know your views on the draft Assessment Procedure by 20th November 2009. After this date, the procedure may be amended as a result of comments received and a final procedure will be published. The results of the assessment exercise will be published alongside the Deposit LDP in 2010.

Please send any comments you have on the draft procedure to:
