Transport Policy and Strategy

In May 2015, the Welsh Government approved Bridgend County Borough Council’s Local Transport Plan (LTP) for adoption.  The LTP covers the Bridgend County Borough geographical area and sets out the Council’s priorities for transport investment over the next 15 years. The primary focus of the LTP is to address issues relating to local transport and how it can facilitate economic growth and change travel behaviour.

The LTP supersedes the Regional Transport Plan and has been written within the context of the draft National Transport Plan, issued by Welsh Government in December 2014.  The schemes included within this LTP represent those currently identified by the Council. However, any additional schemes identified that will support the vision of the LTP will be considered for inclusion in future versions.

Because of the connectivity and similarity of issues that have to be planned together, where possible, the LTP for Bridgend has made connections with scheme proposals and time scales identified for the three neighbouring local authorities of Neath Port Talbot, Rhondda Cynon Taf and the Vale of Glamorgan. The latter two local authorities, having been members of the now defunct Sewta regional transport consortium, are, along with Bridgend, also part of the Cardiff Capital Region which has significant economic and transport influence for the county borough.
