Did you know that since 2001, the council has secured more than £1.5m in grants from the Welsh Assembly Government to spend on improvements to the county borough’s bus routes?
Enhancements have already been made to many routes in the Bridgend, Pencoed, Porthcawl and Garw, Ogmore and Llynfi valley areas. Over 200 stops have been improved and many vandal-prone stone and timber shelters have been replaced with new aluminium and polycarbonate models that are safer for bus travellers and easier to clean and maintain.
We have approximately 500 bus shelters throughout the County Borough. The shelters are cleansed every week and there is a call out service when emergency cleansing is required.
As well as improving the shelters, level access kerbs have been introduced to improve disabled access, pedestrian crossing islands have given better access to stops, street lights have been upgraded and speed limit zones have been extended.
To improve the speed and reliability of bus journeys we have also implemented a number of bus lanes within the county borough and we have installed equipment at traffic lights which helps to reduce the waiting time for buses.
To report a problem with a bus shelter, please call (01656) 642559. If you have any other queries relating to bus lanes or bus stops and shelters please use the contact details below.
