What will the Council do for me in an emergency?

In the event of a major emergency occurring in the County Borough, the Council will make best efforts to instigate any one the following services:

Emergency Incident Control Arrangements- In the event of a major emergency affecting the County Borough, the Council will implement procedures to set up Incident Control Rooms providing a central location from which to coordinate the Councils response. In addition to this, council representatives may be required to attend the scene and participate in multi agency strategy meetings.

Rest Centres- In the event that a large number of residents have to be evacuated from their homes, emergency rest centres will be opened to provide shelter and meet the basic needs of the evacuees. Housing and welfare services, emergency feeding and transport can also be provided to support people made temporarily homeless as a result of an emergency.

Recovery Planning- In preparation for a major incident in the County Borough the Council has arrangements in place to help ensure affected communities can effectively recover from the emergency.

If an emergency were to occur the Council would make best efforts to continue it’s most important services, but there are also steps members of the public can take to help themselves in response to a range of emergencies.
