About this consultation

Bridgend County Borough Council has a statutory duty to ensure that suitable childcare provision is available in the local area for working parent/carers, and for parents/carers who are currently in training in preparation for work.

As part of this duty, every council is required to undertake a full Childcare Sufficiency Assessment every three years.  The council undertook its first full assessment in 2008, its second in 2011, and is now preparing for its third assessment in 2014.

As part of the assessment the council must review childcare supply, by consulting with parents/carers, childcare providers and employers, in order to identify whether there are any gaps in childcare provision across the county borough.

An ‘Action Plan’ is then developed by the Childcare team in order to address any gaps that may be identified.
