Commemorative Tree

Applications for a commemorative tree will again need to be in writing.  The acceptance by the Authority of the application does not confer any property rights or privileges.

A dedicated commemorative tree planting scheme will be in operation within Bryngarw Country Park and some of our cemeteries.

In order to maintain appropriate control over what is planted and where, the actual species of the tree and its position within the Park or cemetery will be at the discretion of the Authority.

The Authority may put an appropriate guard around the tree to protect it from damage and will accept responsibility for the upkeep of the tree.  Applicants should note that the Authority cannot be held responsible for any wilful damage caused.

Similar to the Commemorative Plaque scheme, the Authority hopes that applicants will understand the need to keep public spaces looking attractive and uncluttered. For this reason, applicants should note that no floral memorials or other expressions of remembrance are to be placed at any time on or near the commemorative tree.

Whilst a memorial plaque may be positioned by the tree in some of our cemeteries, alternative arrangements will be available at other areas. For example, at Bryngarw Country Park an entry will be made in the ‘Bryngarw Country Park Commemorative Tree Book’ which is retained by Bryngarw House.
