Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is recognised on January 27 every year. It is a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives during the Holocaust - the Nazi persecution and mass murder of Jewish people in Germany between 1941 and 1945.

The Holocaust claimed the lives of six million Jews who were killed by Hitler’s army in mass-shootings, concentration camps and extermination camps.

Bridgend County Borough Council holds an event around the time of Holocaust Memorial Day every year to commemorate those who endured the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

The council’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day event aims to commemorate victims, honour survivors and commit to tackling prejudice, discrimination and racism in the present day.
